  7 June Anne of Bohemia, wife of Richard II, dies.

1396   Marriage of Richard II to isabella of France, daughter of King Charles VI. A twenty year truce was agreed upon, but the two monarchs were unable to conclude a peace. Many of the English nobility resent the loss of opportunity to plunder the natural richness of France.
1397 17 September The Earls of Arundel and Warwick, and the Duke of Glouster are accused of treason.
  21 September Execution of Richard, Earl of Arundel.

  27 July The Duke of York allies himself with Henry Bolingbroke against Richard II.
  19 August Richard is arrested by Henry Bolingbroke
